According to research and findings of the College and University Centre for Koroška about the situation on the labour market and economy development trends and due to the incentive of the cluster Plasttehnika the idea of establishing the university college for polymer technology was born at the end of 2004. We started putting this idea into practice by establishing links with various national institutions and professionals from various areas, such as the economy and the existing universities, university colleges and technological centres. With their help a modern programme was set up, comparable with similar programmes around the EU and the USA, but still projecting specifics and needs of the domestic economy. It was prepared with close cooperation of the economy and according to the EU directions, such as the Bologna process and the TUNING educational structures in Europe process.

Public Institution College and University Centre for Koroška is the co-founder of the PTC (PolymerTechnologyCollege).

The establishment of PTC received very good reactions in the region. The school has had the support of all key regional economic and non-economic subjects but also the support of all key national associations, centres and faculties that function or operate in this field.
